I decided I didn't want to see the fifteen cent light bulbs through the cut outs in the brain. It kind of ruined the magic for me so I first installed shoji (?) screen material in the brain. I then decided I would only install three bulbs per side. This way entire sections of the brain appear to be switching on and off. The eyes in the corners are non blinking bulbs. I've seen other builders make these blue and I think this looks great. I used a triple thickness of lighting gel lense material behind each eye lens for a rich blue color.
The dividers between bulbs are balsa wood covered with aluminum foil to increase brightness. In the picture on the right you can see the yellow paper template I needed to make so I could see where to cut away at the balsa wood dividers so they would not conflict with the sockets on the top plate.
For paint I'm using Duplicolor Wheel Coating in the graphite color. It has a great finish and is extremely durable. To be made for alloy wheels it kind of has to be. I'm using the same type of paint in silver for the robots exterior. If it can resist chemicals and weather and go down the freeway at high speed it should hold up on the robot. The brain is a Scott Sanderson kit. Very nice. I'm really happy with it.
